What is upper back and shoulder pain?

This is pain that occurs between the shoulder blades that can potentially radiate to your shoulders. Lack of stability or strength in your shoulder joint and upper back can lead to poor mechanics and pain.

What causes upper back and shoulder pain?

There are many causes of upper back and shoulder pain, some include: 

  • Poor standing posture

  • Cervical disc issue

  • Poor sitting posture

  • Poor lifting mechanics 

  • Dysfunction in other areas of the body (neck, rotator cuff, etc.)

The most common signs/symptoms of upper back and shoulder pain include: 

  • Progressive pain while lifting

  • Pain that worsens after activity 

  • Weakness between the shoulders 

  • Pain characterised as a dull ache, sharp or even burning sensation
